What a week! What can I say? In the past six days I have:
- Got a distinction on my MA in Publishing
- Had to attend a hospital appointment (I’m fine!)
- Started volunteering for the Reading Quest
- Interviewed for the role of International Editor in my department (it was like being on Dragon’s Den)
- Got the role of International Editor
- And finally got quite inebriated on proper champagne to celebrate
I take up my new position on the 1st of March, and in the meantime I intend to enjoy my time remaining as Editorial Trainee!
I needed a relaxing weekend after all that!

My second Christmas lunch with work I attended last Tuesday, the day I left the UK to come home to Norway for Christmas. This time we went to Brasserie Blanc in Oxford, this time it was with Content Development. When I started working for Harcourt (now Pearson), I sat with Content Development for six weeks, to get to know the department and to sit near the other Editorial Trainees. And since the Christmas lunch was planned while I was there, I signed up for it, and so it became that I got to attend two Christmas lunches!
This time I had a delicious ham and pea soup, followed by a minuscule trout dish, with some nice red wine. I didn’t order dessert because I had to leave for Gatwick to go home – I also missed all of the poems and songs that had been written by the different teams for the occasion. That was a shame, but I got home ok, and I had a nice time there even though I had to leave early!

Because of the way things have worked out, I get to attend two Christmas lunches through work: the International Department lunch and the Content Development lunch. Sitting with Content Development for six weeks before moving over to International has proved a good strategy culinary wise!
Today I had smoked salmon, roast turkey and white chocolate crème brûlée – all lovely! The Christmas lunch was held at Portabello in Summertown. It was nice to socialise with my new colleagues and I got to know a few people that I hadn’t had much contact with so far. We played a few games and got our Secret Santa presents, and I had a very good time!
